Ios is a renowned Cycladic island for its superb beaches with turquoise crystal clear water and its nightlife .Chora, the main village, with its white-washed houses and its cobbled streets is bustling with activity till the early morning hours as this village is completely taken over by tourism in terms of restaurants, boutiques, bars and discos. Inside the traditional village of Chora ( no vehicles allowed ) beautifully positioned on a hill overlooking the port, the narrow streets are paved with flagstones and from the church near the summit, The Panaghia Gremiotissa, there are wonderful views, especially at sunset. A real hidden treasure is the Odysseas Elytis theatre, named after one of Greece’s most famous modern poets and faithfully constructed in the ancient style. This is to be found in the area known as Tsoukalaria.
